Acupuncture Plus

Acupuncture & acupressure at Big Heart

Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in which hair-thin needles are inserted into the body in precise locations and patterns. There is a range of acupuncture variants originating from different philosophies. Techniques also vary depending on the country/region in which it is performed. The use of acupuncture is to balance the body’s Yin and Yang characteristics and to enhance the smoothness and strength of the body’s energy flow. It is most often used for pain relief though it is also recommended for a wide range of other conditions.

Acupuncture is generally safe when done by appropriately trained practitioners using sterilized and single-use needles. At Big Heart we use single-use needles. Adverse side effects, if any, occur rarely with an experienced, trained practitioner.

We generally pair acupuncture with other therapies dependent on what is presenting in session. Additional therapies may include cupping, moxibustion, guasha, far infrared light therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, massage and movement techniques. This blending of techniques in private appointments we call Acupuncture Plus. We also hold group sessions called Acu | Sound.

At this group event we use general wellness points for calm and balance, including Yintang and auricular (ear) points. While acupuncture needles are one option, another option is ear seeds, which do not puncture the skin, rather are tiny seeds applied and adhered to the skin on specific points and can be gently pressed and left in place for up to 2 weeks. They are easily removed or even fall away on there own.

Conjunctively we use sound therapy based on 5-element theory amplifying the effects of the acu-therapy. Together these techniques form an exquisite combination for mind-body-soul rejuvenation.

Translated as “Hall of Seal”. This point serves to calm the spirit, open the nose and many other great benefits.

Auricular (Ear) Points

The theory behind ear acupoints is that the whole body can be mapped out on the ear so it is possible to treat the whole body just by inserting needles or adhering ear seeds to specific points in the ears. The NADA (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) protocol focuses on five acupuncture points in the ear. These five points affect body-mind functions and are concerned with cleansing and balancing.

5-Point Protocol
